What is this workshop about???
“The Devil’s Riddle”: Exploring the Mambo Basic Step!
The Mambo was known as “El Ritmo Diablo” (The Devil’s Rhythm). The Mambo basic step is the first thing we learn in this dance, but the acquisition of its tricky pattern seems to be where most dancers exploration and refinement ends. From its origins with the Changüi to the Danzón to the Són, and eventually to the Mambó and what is now referred to as Salsa, its origins both musically and physically are rich and complicated. The Mambo basic step can take a lifetime to master and its mastery reveals itself in every facet of the dance. In this 2 hour intensive, Frankie will explode the normal paradigm and tear the basic step apart from its many different iterations to its musical connections. He will take us through a painstakingly detailed training session, developing this seemingly simple, yet profound little pattern into a monster of possibility with the entire body. This workshop will not only unleash potential for the future of the practitioner, but for the foundation and future of this dance for generations to come.
