The Bride -The Intricacies of Cha Cha Partnerwork with Frankie Martinez

Sunday, Apr 24th
6-8pm
Open Level

It was said that Mambo was the Groom and Cha Cha Cha was the Bride. Two parts of the same whole. But today they are as separate as ever, and the richness of what was once a colorful and emotionally expressive cultural art form has been robbed of its essence.

In this two hour exploration, we will focus on the lost art of partnerwork in the Cha Cha Cha. Not only will we address the normal structures of “lead-follow” and turn execution, but also the concept of musical phrasing in partnerwork which becomes paramount in Cha Cha Cha. It is rare to hear anyone speak of phrasing when discussing partnerwork in Latin dance. The reason for this stems from a lack of understanding of the specific intricacies in musicality when executing Cha Cha Cha turn patterns and chases. Not only will those who have avoided or found it difficult to deal with Cha Cha Cha find a new level of comfort with the slower, more deliberate iteration, but the seasoned dancer will discover a new dimension in their Salsa and Mambo, making them more musical entities when connected to a partner.

We welcome dancers of all levels and challenge you to take another a step toward being living, breathing music.
